The Future of Digital Publishing

Peer review has long been held as the gold standard for article evaluation. At its simplest, goal of peer is to ensure that a published in journal appropriately vetted by qualified scholars. Traditional models require this process either single- or double-blind; editor assigns reviewers based on subject expertise and either/or reviewer author names are hidden. In an ideal scenario, fosters open unbiased commentary, but attempts at evaluation rigor can soon become gatekeeping exclusion. The reality often fraught with issues, including biases toward race, gender, language proficiency.
